A 20-Year-Old Boiler Problem

Church of Saint Margaret Mary, Built in 1923, Gets a Huge Electric Upgrade

St. Margaret Mary Church located on 1914 Morris Ave in the Bronx is a historic Roman Catholic church offering daily Mass. St. Margaret Mary has an established ministry that incorporates music, children's ministry, community service, youth group, missions, and other community programs. Established in 1923, this church has been a community staple for almost 100 years contributing to the West Bronx through its community engagement and youth education through its associated St. Margaret Mary School. St. Margaret Mary School, a subset of St. Margaret Mary Church, is a private school located on 121 East 177th Street that offers a wide variety of classroom activities; including music, art, library, and physical education. Built in 1923, the rectory in the Church of Saint Margaret Mary was struggling with an old and inefficient oil boiler that was very expensive to run. They decided to partner with BlocPower to manage, install and maintain a modern, all-electric Climate Comfort System.

The Challenge

  • The boiler was 20+ years old, contributing to poor indoor air quality and inefficient heating and cooling.
  • The fuel tank was replaced over 5 years ago, needing an upgrade.

The Solution

  • BlocPower project managed numerous contractors to install a heat pump system that heats and cools the two areas of St. Margaret Mary.
  • In the lobby, a 3-ton, 1-zone Daikin heat pump was installed. In the rectory, a 20 tone, 25 zone Daikin heat pump was installed.
