BlocPower will use AWS products and services to advance data-driven solutions for decarbonizing building stock across the country

Brooklyn, NY — November 29, 2022 — BlocPower today announced it has been selected to participate in the AWS Sustainable Cities Accelerator for Infrastructure — a technical, business and mentorship program for startups seeking to use Amazon Web Services (AWS) to make infrastructure more sustainable. This opportunity will support BlocPower’s efforts to improve its BlocMaps technology through cloud-based data-processing solutions offered by AWS.

The four-week AWS Sustainable Cities Accelerator curriculum provides hands-on AWS technical and cloud training, mentorship, coaching and business support. As one of nine companies chosen for this opportunity, BlocPower will receive up to $100,000 in computing credits, training and support, mentorship, and additional business development resources from AWS, including opportunities to speak with clean tech venture investors.

BlocPower plans to utilize AWS serverless solutions to improve the performance of its products. Using the available cloud technologies to migrate raw data, BlocPower will save time and money to help deliver energy insights to additional low- and moderate-income households.

“BlocPower is incredibly excited to join the AWS accelerator. We are working with AWS to build a recommendation engine powerful enough to provide clean energy and sustainability upgrade renovations for over 100 million buildings across America," said Donnel Baird, founder and CEO of BlocPower. "This is important, because buildings represent 30% of US emissions, and our software will tell millions of building owners how best to reduce their carbon and greenhouse gas emissions. Secondly, we are thrilled to join an amazing community of founders in the AWS accelerator, so that we can brainstorm and share ideas with our fellow climate tech entrepreneurs about how best to work together to confront the climate crisis.”

“One of the greatest challenges in the public sector is our collective need for more sustainable infrastructure,” said Jeff Kratz, general manager of Worldwide Public Sector Partners at AWS. “By working with AWS, we believe that startups in our AWS Sustainable Cities Accelerator will harness the power of the cloud to make global infrastructure more sustainable and efficient.”

In addition to being selected to participate in the AWS Sustainable Cities Accelerator, BlocPower was featured in an AWS case study highlighting the company’s work using AWS technologies to enhance its proprietary BlocMaps, a software-as-a-service (SaaS) solution that provides actionable insights for decarbonizing buildings to property owners, utility companies, municipalities, states and other groups.
